Feb 2012 - Investing in the correct patio doors

There are plenty of patio doors on the market, but which one is the best for your home?  The following tips may help you determine the right patio door for you and your home.

Firstly, look for a patio door that will last against weather, light exposure and wear.  Wood patio doors do not stand the test of time, especially in wet weather; they tend to warp.  This is why UPVC patio doors can be your best choice.  UPVC is a stronger material designed to stay the same no matter the weather or sun exposure.  If cleaned properly, you can keep UPVC doors for 20 plus years.

Secondly, invest in doors with energy efficiency.  The glass you choose should have a high energy rating, allowing your home to keep the hot or cool air inside.  Double glazing may be the best option when it comes to energy efficiency.

Allowing more light into your home can open up the natural space and also help heat your home.  Sunlight has been proven to benefit health.  This means you should allow as much sunlight in as possible, given the UK weather.

You may also want to coordinate your other doors.  For example, sliding glass doors leading to the outside can be complemented with French patio doors leading from the living room or office.  The coordination may be the exact look you need for better kerb appeal and an increased value when you sell.
